a sighted child's guide to blindness

Hi, We're Katie & Hallie
mother & daughter
Together we wrote a picture book to help sighted kids understand blindness.
Everywhere we go, young kids are curious about what it means to be blind, some are brave enough to ask and others are confused, "Why is she blind if her eyes are open?"
We know that questions about disabilities can become an obstacle for connection.
We want all kids to have tools to connect.

Seeing With My Hands
Hallie will become your child's guide to blindness as they learn about a world without sight where Hallie
rides a bike in tandem,
reads in the dark and
watches movies with audio description.
This children's book takes blindness-often understood as something in Helen Keller's past and puts it in their neighborhoods, classrooms and parks
as a real experience of people like Hallie.
Kids are curious how Hallie sees.
Her answer, "I see with my hands!"
